Our board of directors steer our strategic vision, playing a key role in supporting the cultural fabric of Calderdale’s community to create a fairer and more compassionate world. Curious Motion is a catalyst for more connection and belonging, championing ‘hyper-local’ and accessible grassroots dance and arts practices to reduce loneliness, address health inequalities, and foster long-term wellbeing.
We are embarking on our most exciting year yet, having secured our first multi-year funding in 2023 and playing a key role in CultureDale for 2024. Since it’s inception four years ago Curious Motion has grown from a single series of dance classes in Elland to a fully-fledged arts and health organisation, led by a highly experienced and committed team and supported by many wonderful local people.
As this exciting year begins we are focused on expanding the skills, experiences, and knowledge of our board to ensure more accurate representation of our community and to increase our impact.

Curious Motion is small but growing. We have one part-time employee and several freelancers. Our expected turnover for the year 2023-24 is £75,000. We currently have four directors and we are looking to recruit two more this year. You can find out about our current directors and wider team here.
We currently run board meetings four times a year on a quarterly basis. Three of these are held online via Zoom and one is in-person as part of an annual get together. The role of Chair is currently shared between three of our directors and this opportunity would be open to new directors too. The average commitment, including meetings, is estimated as 7 hours per month.
If you’d like to know more about our work and impact read our most recent project report.
We are particularly looking to hear from people who live or work in Calderdale and have a background or skills in the following:
Previous board experience isn’t necessary as training and support will be provided – we actively welcome applications from people who are looking to join a board for the first time.
Our community is representative of many different cultures and lived experiences. We regularly work with people from Elland, Rastrick, Halifax, Syria, Sudan, Iraq, South Africa, and Afghanistan. Many of the people we serve also have lived experience with chronic illness, disability, social isolation, fleeing war and persecution, or mental health challenges. We want to ensure our board more accurately represents our community and so we particularly welcome applications from people who represent the above communities or have similar lived experiences.
Suitable applicants will be invited to have a short interview with members of our board. This will be arranged on an individual basis.
Closing date: Friday 2nd February 2024
